Contrary to what you have been taught to know about people like
me,
I am a person first.
I am queer second.
I am a musician,
Who plays guitar,
And writes words on napkins.
I play alone to myself in my room,
And sing in my shower.
I am a musician who happens to be gay,
Not a gay musician.
I am a person first.
I am a lover,
Who touches bodies
and skin and feels the warmth of breath on my neck.
I give and receive, and give again,
Moving in time with my heart beat.
I am a lover who happens to sleep with women.
I am a person first.
I am a performer,
Who expresses thought threw movement
and eye contact.
I wear tutus sometimes, tuxs others
Always entertaining.
I am a performer who can be a man, or a ballerina,
Because I'm not a gay performer,
I am a performer who happens to be gay.
I am a person first.
