In My Utopia
For Evan

The football nearly hit me in the head
- I never claimed to be athletic.
Your female body, male mind
Inspired me.
Then moments later,
You were sitting in my hotel room,
Filling awkward silences
With laughter
And information.
"You mean, I don't have to be a girl?"

Masturbation and beer,
Billy Joel and fake jewellry,
A daughter as beautiful as you,
Your writing is forever trapped in
a laminate of scotch tape
That I stick to my wall
Reminding me to stick up for myself
The way that you do.

Fat is not a dirty word.
You embrace it
And your nakedness is empowering
Breasts, no breasts, bound chest, all the rest.
I look at you and remember that football,
That sunny day
That feeling of awe
For your female body
And male mind
And my fucked up sense of self
Suddenly snaps into focus
Just as the ball hits me in the face.

Thank you.
